The Semi Final of the Conway Cup was played in Ruislip on Thursday evening between two local rivals KKG and Tara’s. With both teams meeting in the first round of the senior football championship in three weeks time it gave both sides a good opportunity to monitor their strength and weakness.

With Kingdom Kerry Gaels having their county players back on board KKG were looking for a strong and confident performance. KKG started bright with two quick scores from play from B O’Sullivan and P Atkinson. As thefirst half progressed KKG started to grow in confidence from the backs to the forwards through good support play and hard work .KKG persistent use of the long ball in to their full forward line was starting to show benefits as Murphy, Harding and Atkinson were tormenting the full back line with their strong running and excellent score taking. As the first half concluded KKG were and top in all sectors of the field but with half of the job in hand still to complete. Half time score KKG 1-06 Tara’s 0-03.

KKG where looking to build on their strong first half performance. The game as a contest was virtually over after 10 mins of the second half after two well taken goals from corner forward Peter Atkinson. As the game progresses KKG took the opportunity to give some of their substitutes a change to stake a claim for a starting position where 5 subs were introduced.

As the game concluded KKG will still not take anything for granted in the Championship when both sides meet against in the first round of the senior football championship in 3 weeks time. KKG will take numerous positives from this game, but yet it is still not the finished produced as this was a semi final, there is still a Conway Cup final to play against either Tir Conail Gaels or St Kieran’s.
